Day 1: Arrive Beijing
Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your luxury hotel.
Day 2: Beijing | The Ancient and Iconic
Witness the Great Wall, exploring the well-preserved and less-frequented Mutianyu section and taking a scenic cable car ride for commanding views of the countryside.
Day 3: Beijing | Sites of Significance
Visit the Temple of Heaven, which dates back to the Ming Dynasty. Pause for a private tai chi class. Then, explore Beijing’s winding alleyways during a hutong tour by pedicab. See historically significant Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace and a political center for nearly 500 years.
Day 4: Pingyao | Charming Ancient City
Board a high-speed train to Taiyuan and transfer to Pingyao, stopping at Jinci Temple and well-maintained Qiao’s Compound, a family estate dating back to the 18th century.
Day 5: Pingyao | China’s First Bank
See the ancient, imposing City Wall, continuing to China’s first bank, Rishengchang Ancient Bank, situated in the busiest section of Xi Da Jie. Stroll along Antique Ming and Qing Street, which brims with furniture, ancient coins, Chinese paintings, jade and lacquer pieces, and traditional folk clothing. Proceed to Temple of the City Deity, where the local deity is enshrined and worshipped, continuing to Confucius Temple. Then, visit with a local family to gain insight into daily life, and browse the stalls of a local market.
Day 6: Xian | Archeological Wonders
Fly to Xian. See the archeological discoveries from Han Dynasty tombs at the Yangling Museum, with a stop at its Restoration Lab.
Day 7: Xian | Terra Cotta Warriors
View the Terra Cotta Warriors alongside a knowledgeable archeologist, pausing for a special photo opportunity with the figures, which were created to safeguard the emperor’s passage to the afterlife and protect his kingdom from attack. After lunch, proceed to the Ancient Gate of City Wall, with an opportunity to cycle along it. Later, discover the Great Mosque and Muslim Quarter.
Days 8-9: Guilin | Change of Pace
Fly to Guilin. The following day, explore Fuli Town, and attend a fan-making demonstration at local market. Traverse the Yulong River by bamboo raft, and take a bicycle or golf cart ride through the picturesque Yangshuo countryside. See Moon Hill, and attend the Liu San Jie show.
Day 10: Hong Kong | Soaring City
Fly to Hong Kong. Pay a visit to a tea plantation, followed by stops at scenic Fubo Hill, Elephant Trunk Hill and limestone Reed Flute Cave, named for the sound made by melodious reeds outside the entry.
Day 11: Hong Kong | Soaring City
Explore Sheung Wan, one of the earliest British settlements; the Herbal Medicine Market; and Man Mo Temple, a tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo). Ascend panoramic Victoria Peak by tram for staggering city views, and take a sampan ride through a floating village at Aberdeen. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Day 12: Depart Hong Kong
Transfer to the airport and board your homebound flight.
