Arrival Bucharest

Welcome to Bucharest, Romania. You will be met at the airport by an Evergreen representative and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Join your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner at your hotel. Two Night Stay: Bucharest

Bucharest

Today you will stroll the streets and boulevards of Bucharest in a guided walking city tour, which includes the enormous Palace of the Parliament; Europe's largest building constructed by former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The city's wide avenues have a distinctly French feel; in fact the city is often referred to as the Paris of the East.

Bucharest – Giurgiu – Embarkation

You will transferred by coach from Bucharest to Giurgiu, where a warm welcome awaits you from your Captain and crew as you board your luxury Emerald Waterways river cruise ship. Silistra

Relax in the riverside city of Silistra which was once a Roman fort under the Byzantine Empire and was later part of the Ottoman conquest. Rousse –Arbanassi & Veliko Tarnovo

Cruise to a town called Rousse and then visit the historic town of Arbanassi perched on a high plateau overlooking the Yantra valley and lined with traditional houses. The town is known for its 17th and 18th century churches and many examples of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. In the afternoon, also visit the impressive cliff top town of Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of the Bulgarian empire known once as the 'city of the Tsars'.

Relax on board today as you sail through the narrow gorge between the European Alps and Carpathian Mountains known as the Iron Gates. The narrow and once dangerous passage boasts spectacular scenery forming the border between Romania and Serbia.

Belgrade

Serbia's vibrant capital awaits today, your city tour includes a visit to Tito's Memorial, the impressive Fortress Kalemegdan and St Sava Church which is the world's largest orthodox cathedral. Vukovar – Osijek & Batina

Cruise into the border region of Croatia today, an area that was heavily damaged during the Croatian War of Independence at the end of the communist era. Compare stories back at the ship and enjoy an evening of sailing further down the Danube into Serbia, where remnants of former conflicts can be regularly seen along the river banks. Kalocsa – Budapest

Vienna

Today we explore Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world–famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Then you have free time to sample the wonderful tastes of Vienna. Durnstein - Melk

In the morning we arrive in Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. Thereafter you drive through the picturesque landscape of this district to the 900-year old Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture. Passau

Cruise along the Danube this morning, in the afternoon we reach Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in this beautiful city. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes.
