The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea Maui exceeds expectations

By Patti Pietschmann Pavlus BlogMaster reporting from Maui

A vibrant fantasy of tropical plants, flowers and palm trees greet you as you drive through the entry gates of the exquisite Hotel Wailea Maui–a   Relais & Chateaux property posed like a sumptuous hojin inn on a slope of Haleakala, 300 feet above the sea.

There are awesome views from every angle. This is specially  at the restaurant, which was our reason for being there last night. We had a lovely front row table where we sipped French Champagne as the sun slid slowly into the blue Pacific.

A gracious wait staff steered us to the most delicious courses. Our foodie foray started with “snacks. There were Kalua pork croquettes and ahi poke “crackers.” Then came a delicate hamachi tataki with hearts of palm and avocado.

But wait, there’s more.

But wait, there’s more. A risotto with truffles, Parmesan and alii mushrooms.

Yes we were getting sated but the best was yet to come.

Chef outdid himself with an incomparable lamb shank on cannalini beans and a Vietnamese-style steamed opaka in a savory sesame sauce.

This is where we drew the virtual line and shared one  dessert.

A luscious Napoleon. Of course we also paired our courses with mighty fine wines.

The restaurant is simply stunning with indoor seating and tables on a lower terrace. The hotel ha 72 one bedroom suites designed for discerning clients.

It is a bit of a way from the beach but guests are driven down to the sea in style in a Tesla Model X.
