Cruise lines face changing times afloat
By Patti Pietschmann, Travel Diva
There are some challenging times ahead for cruise lines as passengers face distinct differences. Passengers will need to adjust to new safety rules most companies are implementing.
Leading the way is Crystal Cruises. The luxury line is setting the scenario with its Crystal Clean+ safety and health protocols on River Cruises.
Of the changes afloat are mandatory mask wearing, issuance of individual boarding times and temperature checks. Gatherings are being limited to just a few people at a time in public areas. Social distancing is the new norm. Crystal is also assigning boarding times and doing pre-boarding temperature checks.
Disinfection Procedures
Crystal Clean+ procedures will include extra thorough cleansing and disinfecting. There will be electrostatic foggers for an extra layer of disinfection on embarkation day.
Daily disinfecting of hallways, social spaces, handrails, table tops etc. is also on the agenda. Along with professional cleansing and disinfecting of bedsheets and linens.
Mask policy
Crystal’s mask policy remains nimble. Masks will be provided to passengers and crew and must be worn in venues where social distancing is difficult.
Difference in dining experiences
A new dining experience eliminates person-to-person contact. Open seating dining remains but with social distancing. Contact free dining service will be the norm and no self-service options will be available. The good news is you can still order room service whenever you want.
Shore excursion protections
Crystal is working with shoreside partners and tour operators to ensure protocols are followed.
A breath of fresh air
Each ship features a 100% fresh air supply to all suites and public spaces. There is no air re-circulation.
Crystal Clean+ goes into effect in 2021 on Danube, Rhine, Main and Moselle river cruises. Crystal is currently in a cruise pause through the end of 2020.
Wow factors
Crystal’s new-build, 106-passenger river vessels are the most spacious in Europe. Amenities include butlers, balconies, walk-in closets and other luxuries. Fares include WiFi, tips, all beverages and signature service and cuisine.
