Problems getting to paradise

By Patti Pietschmann, Travel Diva

Even paradise has its protocols. Being able to fly to ‘qualify’ for a flight to Hawaii during this coronavirus pandemic is like winning the lottery. First of all you must submit to a 14-day quarantine should be lucky enough to catch a flight. But starting September 1, 2020 you can avoid being quarantined if you take a Covid19 test, and prove negative,  72-hours prior to arrival.

But even before you leave home Hawaiian Airlines insists  you m fill out an online form promising you’re fit to fly and will abide by the new rules.

The short form asks you to promise you’ll wear a mask or face covering on the whole flight.  And that you haven’t test positive for COVID19 in 21-days.  And that you show none of the Covid19 symptoms. These include a  high temperature, cough, chills, sore throat and more.

You can find the form on your PC or mobile device.

If you ‘fail’ the test, call HA reservations team at 1-800-367-5320 or visit hawaiianairlines.com/contact-us to discuss travel options. For additional information about  Hawaiianʻs layered health and safety protocols go to the Keeping You Safe page. You can also watch the video we so kindly attached.

As of this writing Hawaii’s 14-day self quarantine on arrival rule is in effect until Sept. 1, 2020. But it’s all up in the air after then. Unless  Gov. Ige doesn’t change his mind. He just issued this statement: , “PRE-TRAVEL TESTING PROGRAM: Beginning September 1, all travelers arriving in Hawaii from out-of-state will be required to get a valid COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) within 72 hours of boarding their flight to Hawaii, and to show proof of a negative test result upon arrival at the airport, to avoid the 14-day quarantine. The FDA-approved NAAT test from a CLIA-certified laboratory will need to be done prior to arrival. No testing will be provided upon arrival at the airport.”

It beats being isolated in your hotel or condo.
