The newly-designed terminal has a lot of wow factors

Wow! After a major re-design, it’s now a breeze going through Terminal 1 at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye Airport. It is also an eye and passenger-pleasing experience. Which is exactly the intentions of the KYA Design Group. According to Carol Torigoe, the firm’s CEO/president, “The decor embraces Hawaii’s culture and Aloha spirit and allows travelers to view Hawaii’s gorgeous skies through floor to ceiling glass.”
TSA accessibility made easier
The Mauka Concourse provides easy access to six new TSA security screening lanes. And, 25-foot-tall ceilings and glass walls on all sides. The Concourse can accommodate up to six wide-body aircraft or 11 narrow-body aircraft. It functions for interisland, domestic and international departures.
Food, beverage, retail shops and restrooms
To maintain visibility of the outdoors, KYA businesses and restrooms now operate in the center of the concourse. This enables views from sunrise to sunset and into the evening. “We like to think of this design concept as people relaxing on their lanai,” muses Torigoe.
