Cruise line stepping up to the plate by easing restrictions during trying times

Cruise lines and air lines are doing their best to comfort and help travelers during these unsettling times.  Just about every travel company is offering fair compensation to anyone who wants to cancel with a few restrictions.

If you are traveling with Viking, Silversea or Windstar, here are their latest  statements on coronavirus-related cancellation policies:

Silversea adjusts policies

“Silversea Cruises has temporarily eased its new booking and cancellation policies. This should help travelers with additional time to evaluate their travel plans,”

Booking between June 1 and December 31, 2020 may be canceled just 30 days prior to departure. You will have to pay a customary administrative fee on the cruise fare.

Silversea will negotiate for the same cancellation of air travel, hotels and shore excursions. However, Silversea does not have control over these third-party suppliers, so  different terms may apply.

 Windstar sent this out:

“Travelers booking a Windstar cruise vacation on or before June 1, 2020 can cancel up to 15 days before without incurring a fee.”

Read Windstar’s new Travel Assurance Booking Policy  This  automatically applies to new and existing cruises departing on or after June 1, 2020 through December 31, 2021.”

Travelers who cancel a cruise booking up to 15 days prior to departure will receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit. But you must sail  within one year of the issue date of the credit.

Viking Cruises cancellation policy

As you undoubtedly know, the coronavirus COVID-19 is causing concern in the travel industry. At Viking, the safety and security of our guests and employees has always been our top priority. We are employing extra health screening procedures for all guests and staff before boarding our vessels. Everyone must fill out a health care questionnaire before embarkation. We continue to reiterate the importance of individual hygiene, sanitizing and washing of hands.

Traveler have up to 24 hours prior to departure to cancel

In view of this we are for the time being making a temporary exception to our cancellation policy so that you can be free to postpone your cruise at any time up until 24 hours before the planned departure, without incurring any cancellation fees. You will be issued a voucher for future travel valid for 24 months, which can be used on any Viking product (river, ocean or expedition). This temporary exception  is applicable for all guests who currently have a reservation with Viking and for all new reservations made through April 30, 2020.

The temporary exception to our cancellation policy is as follows:

Notification of your intent to postpone your current cruise needs to made if you have flights arranged by Viking, at least 24 hours prior to the time of your flight’s departure.

If you have arranged your own flights, you must submit it at least 24 hours prior to the time of embarkation of the cruise or your hotel check-in, whichever is first.

If you cancel a reservation Viking will give you a 100% Future Cruise Voucher. The credit is valid for any future river, ocean or expedition cruise with Viking for 24 months.
