AmaWaterways shares reasons for increase in popularity

Boom in river cruises

According to execs from  AmaWaterways  river cruises bookings are booming,   Company co-owners  Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and Gary Murphy say the momentum is being driven by six key factors.

One trend, they cite, is toward special occasion travel.  Many groups are gathering for milestone birthdays and anniversaries postponed throughout 2020.

As people search for a special way to make up for lost occasions, AmaWaterways is noting an uptick in multi-generational and multi-family travel bookings.  The cruise line offers a choice of up to 23 optional tours in seven-night river cruises tailored to individuals.  In  particular, the 2021 Christmas Market and holiday cruises t are showing early booking levels well above previous years.

Desire for longer trips and booking windows

A second trend is to longer trips and booking windows.  International travel regulations continue to evolve. As they do  booking windows are will begin to shrink.  AmaWaterways guests  are adding extensions to seven-night river cruise. Many are  combining back-to-back cruises through Europe and adding pre- and post-cruise land packages. Topping the list are sought-after destinations like Bellagio and Transylvania, Romania–home to the legendary tales of Dracula’s castle and the Palace of Parliament.

Quest for more leisurely travel

More travelers are opting for slower, authentic experiences in low density destinations.  River cruises allow time to explore at a leisurely pace and fully immerse oneself in all aspects of the area.

Holistic wellness and destressing

After a year of isolation and coronavirus fears people are leaning toward holistic wellness and stress reduction.  They are pursuing better physical and mental health. This brings the desire for outdoor activities and health and fitness options.

Increasing popularity of travel agents

After a year rife with cruise and travel pauses and cancellations, people are realizing the value of travel advisors. They go to them for expert knowledge and personal service.. To thank its loyal guests and travel advisors, AmaWaterways  provides a Referral Savings Offer that rewards  past guests and  friends and family with savings while encouraging  the use of travel advisors.

Smaller ships with fewer passengers

“North American luxury travelers are planning their next vacations. And river cruises are among the first to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels,” says Schreiner, president of AmaWaterways.

Riverboats are  popular with people who prefer smaller ships with fewer passengers.  People also like that boats dock smack in the center of  town so there’s no need to take a cab or bus anywhere.
