Give mom the very best dining experience ever
By Patti Pietschmann Pavlus BlogMaster/PostMistress
Chef Mavro is forks down one of Hawaii’s finest restaurants. My husband Richard and I have been going there since it opened years ago. The romantic restaurant, operated and founded by exceptional chef, George Mavro, is also one of the most popular in the islands.
Frequented by locals, tourists, couples and families, Mavro’s cuisine combines the flavors of France and Hawaii into heavenly dishes that dance in your mouth. While any evening is a good time to visit, the charming eatery is especially appealing for special occasions. Think Mother’s Day.
Any mom will love Mavro’s. And, if you don’t happen to live on Oahu, consider treating your mother (or wife) to a trip to Oahu with dinner at Mavro’s for Mother’s Day (May 12). (Buy her a lei a the airport when you arrive). She will do the hula with happinesss. Pavlus can make your flight and hotel arrangements (800-528-9300). Once you’re set to go make a reservation at www.chefmavro.com for a Mom’s day dinner she’ll never forget.
Free pistou soup from chef’s mother’s recipe
On Mother’s Day, all menus begin with a table side service of a complimentary Pistou soup inspired by Chef Mavro’s won Mom. The delicious bowl full is topped with tasty country bread croutons and San Daniele prosciutto. Then treat yourself and her to a five-course menu with choices at $155 and a Grand Tasting Menu at $192.
Menu highlights include Keahole lobster, Elysian Fields lamb, Wagyu beef, Island chicken, Snapper, upcountry vegetables and more. Vegetarian and vegan menus available. Optional treats include Petrossian caviar, Chanterelle Risotto and Onaga baked in a salt crust. Wine pairings are highly recommended.
Chef Mavro calls Pistou Soup a Provencal comfort food. “Love is always the best ingredient and I think of my Mom as I prepare her recipe for pistou soup. It was the best in the whole world and offering this dish to all guests has become a Mother’s Day tradition at our restaurant. The flavor is fantastic with many kinds of spring beans, ham hocks, tomato, and of course one ton of basil and Parmesan cheese.”
Dishes that delight at Chef Mavro’s
By Richard PietschmannA little tip. If 10 days isn’t enough to plan a trip to Oahu, just give her a card with a hand made gift certificate. Doesn’t she deserve the best.
There are many hotels not far from the restaurant. But for a real treat (and splurge) book a room at the heavenly Halekulani.
If that’s too big for your budget Pavlus travel specialists will provide more choices.
Years ago we treat my mother to a trip to Maui. It was her first. The expression on her face when we arrived on the island was priceless. Her big brown eyes opened even wider and her beautiful smile said it all.
Hawaii is magical, mystical and made for moms, lovers, families and friends.
