From the 16th to the 18th centuries, Hoi An was one of the wealthiest ports in South Asia, home to seafaring Dutch, French, Portuguese, Arab, Japanese and Chinese merchants. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its splendidly preserved architecture and culinary traditions. As you join your personal guide this morning for a private sightseeing tour and stroll along the city’s pedestrian streets, it’s easy to imagine that you’ve stepped into a bygone era of Vietnam’s history. Your half-day tour includes famous landmarks like Chua Ong Pagoda, built in 1653, and Jinshang Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea and the protector of seafaring merchants. You’ll also visit the 200-year-old Tam Ky House and the oft-photographed covered bridge, built by Japanese craftsmen in the 17th century.
