Caudebec-En-Caux

A quiet Norman river town on a wide Seine meander, gateway to a storied route of medieval abbeys

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Caudebec-en-Caux sits on the right bank of the Seine in Normandy, where the river bends through wooded chalk cliffs and pastureland. Much of the town was rebuilt after wartime destruction, its half-timbered facades and steep-roofed houses echoing traditional Norman style, while the Gothic church of Notre-Dame remains one of the few structures to have survived intact. The setting captures the slow, meandering character of the lower Seine valley.

The town serves as a natural starting point for the Route des Abbayes, a scenic road linking Benedictine foundations such as Jumièges and Saint-Wandrille, whose ruins and working monastery reveal centuries of Norman religious history. Near the riverfront, the Seine Museum traces the waterway's maritime and commercial past with models, tools, and exhibits on river trade. The town center lies within easy walking distance of the quay, making it simple to explore on foot before venturing further along the abbey route.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Caudebec-En-Caux.

Drive the Route des Abbayes

Follow the riverside road to the ruined abbey of Jumièges and the still-active monastery at Saint-Wandrille, both within a short drive; allow a half-day to see both sites properly.

Visit the Seine Museum

Steps from the quay, this small museum traces the river's maritime trade through ship models and tools, a quick stop before heading further afield.

Step Inside Notre-Dame

One of the few buildings to survive wartime bombing, this Gothic church's carved facade and interior are worth a brief detour in the town center.
