Fort Medoc > Cadillac

Gateway to the storied Médoc vineyards and the fortified river bend at the heart of Bordeaux's wine country

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Fort Médoc sits along the Gironde estuary between Bordeaux and Pointe de Grave, at the northern edge of the Médoc, an appellation famed for cabernet sauvignon and some of the world's most celebrated wine estates. The riverside setting serves as a natural point of arrival for exploring the surrounding countryside, where centuries-old châteaux display a striking range of architectural styles amid rows of vines stretching toward the horizon.

Nearby, the town of Cadillac traces its origins to 1280 and still holds onto a number of grand historic buildings from that era, including remnants of its medieval street plan. In 1701, French explorer Antoine de la Mothe took the name of the town when he founded a settlement across the Atlantic that would later become Detroit, Michigan. Travelers who venture beyond the waterfront find a landscape shaped as much by wine trade history as by river commerce.
