About the Port
Set within the Sainte Anne Marine National Park off Mahé, Cousin Island is a small granitic islet that once served as private land before its 1968 purchase by conservationists seeking to protect its seabird colonies. Today it stands among the most carefully managed islands in the Seychelles archipelago, sustaining breeding grounds for numerous seabird species amid dense native vegetation. The surrounding waters, rich with more than 150 species of fish, form part of a marine park that also draws Hawksbill turtles to nest on nearby beaches.
Access to Cousin is tightly regulated to preserve its ecological balance, and visits typically occur by small boat with guided walking paths leading through the reserve. The island rewards those with an interest in conservation and birdlife, offering a rare glimpse of an ecosystem largely undisturbed by development. Nearby Sainte Anne Island serves as the usual gateway for excursions into these protected waters.
