About the Port
Stokkseyri sits on Iceland's south coast, a small fishing settlement of low, colorful houses facing the North Atlantic. Its modest harbor and flat coastal plain give little hint of the dramatic landscape inland, but the village serves as a practical gateway for visits to Þingvellir National Park, roughly an hour's drive away. There, travelers walk through a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates diverge, and stand on the site where Iceland's national parliament, the Althing, was founded in 930.
