Begin the day at Plimoth Patuxet. This living history museum interprets the 17th-century Plymouth Colony established by the Pilgrims. Costumed inhabitants will show you colony life during the period through cooking, planting and blacksmithing. Head out to Cape Bay and Stellwagen Bank, a marine sanctuary and primary feeding grounds for humpback, finback and the endangered right whales. Entering the smallest New England state, arrive in Newport, Rhode Island. A local guide shows you this fascinating seaport. Famous not only for its maritime history and scenic ten-mile long Ocean Drive, Newport houses some fabulous summer homes built here during America’s glamorous “Gilded Age.” Visit Vanderbilt’s Breakers Mansion and the impressive Marble House to get a glimpse of how America’s most elite families lived at the turn of the century. In the town Sturbridge, Massachusetts sits Old Sturbridge Village. The day is dedicated to this 200-acre living history museum which recreates life in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s period.
