Day 1: SUNDAY
This morning, take in the beauty of the Canal du Midi - a brilliant feat of engineering. The Canal's 328 locks, bridges, aqueducts and tunnels have scarcely changed in more than 300 years. Created in the 17th century by Pierre-Paul Riquet to join the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, the Canal is more than 140 miles long and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The picturesque villages along its banks have preserved their charm and, over the years, have prompted many artists to capture their beauty on canvas. After lunch, visit l'Abbaye de Fontfroide, a Cistercian monastery founded in the 11th century. Return to 'Alouette' by way of Ch?teau Auris for a wine tasting. 'Alouette' Barge B L D
