Explore the capital that is two beautiful cities in one, visiting the Opera House, Europe's largest synagogue and the preserved Baroque town of Szentendre.
Arrive in Budapest, Hungary’s capital city and cultural heart
along the Danube, and meet your A&K representative.
Day 2: Budapest
Spend a full day touring the city, seeing the palatial, painstakingly
restored Opera House, damaged when the city was under siege
in World War II. Visit the ornate Synagogue, the largest in
Europe and also its Jewish Museum; vast Heroes’ Square with its
impressive Millennial Monument; St. Stephen’s Basilica; and the
market hall, where a large array of provisions and crafts are on
sale. After lunch on your own, cross the Chain Bridge to Buda;
ascend Castle Hill by funicular, where the former Royal Palace
gracefully towers over the Danube. Also, see Matthias Church and
stunning panoramas of the city and river from the Fisherman’s
Bastion and Gellért Hill.
Day 3: Szentendre
Set out to see the flourishing artist’s community of Szentendre.
Visit the Margit Kovács Museum to witness fine ceramics and
life-size sculptures, and the Blagovestenska Church, a red
Rococo masterpiece. Spend the afternoon at leisure, perhaps
at pedestrian-friendly Margitsziget (Margaret Island), with its
flowering gardens, small zoo and romantic walkways.
Day 4: Depart Budapest
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
