ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive Casablanca, Morocco
Arrive in Casablanca, where you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 - Casablanca
Explore Casablanca, Morocco’s largest metropolis and its commercial hub. Visit the stunning Hassan II Mosque, which accommodates up to 25,000 worshipers. Built on reclaimed land, almost half of the surface of the mosque lies over the Atlantic’s waters, and its minaret stands as the tallest religious structure in the world. Continue your journey to Fez to check in to your luxurious hotel.

Day 3 - Fez
Take a step back in time to the Middle Ages when you explore Fez el-Bali (Old Fez), the cultural heart of Morocco. Founded in the eighth century by Moulay Idris I, this imperial capital was a renowned center of medieval learning. Stroll the labyrinthine old quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its 9,000 narrow lanes, alleys and souks, on a market visit of exceeding authenticity that may include watching local artisans at their crafts. Proceed to the intricately detailed Karaouine. Built in AD 859, it is one of the oldest still-functioning universities in the world. Also visit Nejjarine Square before continuing to Fez el-Jadid (New Fez), where you see the Royal Palace, madrasas (Islamic schools) and mellah (Jewish quarter). The wrought-iron decorated windows and splendid carved wood balconies of its mansion provide insight into the era’s Jewish architecture.

Day 4 - Volubilis & Meknes
Today, explore Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. With its triumphal arches, basilicas and capitals, the Volubilis skyline brims with iconic examples of Roman architecture. Among its greatest treasures, however, are the mosaic floors of former family dwellings, which include depictions of Orpheus charming animals with his lyre, nine dolphins signifying good luck and a portrait of Amphitrite in a seahorse-drawn chariot. Proceed to a winery outside Meknes for a memorable lunch set among the region’s sunbathed vineyards and olive groves. Continue to Meknes, another UNESCO-listed site and one of the imperial cities of Morocco. View the monumental Bab Mansour gateway, considered one of Morocco’s finest and the Granaries and the Royal Stables, which were built to accommodate some 12,000 horses. Afterward, travel overland to your charming hotel in Rabat.

Day 5 - Rabat
This morning, embark on a city tour that highlights Rabat’s cultural influences and the superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past, starting with the 12th-century Hassan Tower, an excellent example of the Mauresque style. Also view the nearby mausoleum dedicated to Mohamed V, the founder of modern Morocco and grandfather of the current king. Then, visit the Oudaya Kasbah, built on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Its gate is one of the most beautiful surviving in the Moorish world. Continue to Marrakech — often called the Red City for the distinctive hue of its many brick buildings — and check in to your hotel. The balance of the day and evening are at your leisure.

Day 6 - Marrakech
Unearth the secrets of Marrakech, beginning in the medina: the old walled section of town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at its architectural jewels, including the soaring Koutoubia minaret. Next, discover the Dar Si Said Museum, which was originally built as a palace in the late 19th century and now houses a fine collection of antique carpets, unique doors, weapons and jewelry. The palace itself features handcrafted zellije tilework, elegant courtyards and arcades, and a delightful Andalusian garden. Proceed to the Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of domestic architecture that provides insight into life here in the 19th century. Return to your hotel for a light lunch. Later, visit Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakech’s main square, which is filled with orange juice stalls and vendors, along with acrobats, dancers and street musicians performing at every turn. You may also wish to stroll the city’s fabled, labyrinthine souks, their bustling alleyways brimming with all manner of wares.

Day 7 - Marrakech
Today, take part in a traditional shared Moroccan cooking workshop, enjoying the opportunity to learn how to make the perfect tagine, the traditional Berber dish. Learn the impeccable blend of spices used from an instructor who shares ingredients and techniques, and then savor what you have prepared for lunch. This afternoon, visit Jardin Majorelle to view its delightful mix of verdant groves, lily-covered pools and grand sculptural cactuses. Created in 1924 by French artist Jacques Majorelle, the gardens were later restored by design legend Yves Saint Laurent. Also visit the nearby Yves Saint Laurent Museum, a 43,000-square-foot building which exhibits a dazzling collection of some of the iconic designer’s finest creations. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 8 - Depart Marrakech
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your departing flight.
