Day 1
Spend two days experiencing Beijing's highlights.
Wander the busy streets and take in the city's fabulous architecture,
including the siheyuans, tranquil residences with courtyards that
have begun to disappear as Beijing modernizes. Journey out to the
Great Wall and have lunch at the less-frequented Mutianyu section,
with its incredible views of the brilliant Chinese countryside.
Days 2-3
Fly to Taiyuan and transfer by road to Pingyao with a visit to
Qiao Compound, where the film Raise the Red Lanterns was shot.
Day 4
Explore the Pingyao ancient city and stroll along perfectly
preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty era streets.
Day 5
Board your flight to Xian. This afternoon, explore the Xian
Museum and Small Wild Goose Pagoda.
Day 6
View the magnificent Terra Cotta Warriors and, afterward,
enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 7
Travel overland to Luoyang, one of China's ancient capitals.
Day 8
A full day of sightseeing includes the White Horse Temple
and Longmen Grottoes, caves filled with spectacular carvings
depicting the Buddha, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 9
Travel to Zhengzhou with a stop at the late fifth century
Shao Lin Monastery, made famous in the west by its long
association with Chinese martial arts.
Day 10
Spend a day in Kaifeng where sights include the Xiangguo
Monastery, Dragon Pavilion Park and the Iron Pagoda that is
actually made of brick.
Day 11
Fly to Shanghai and transfer to your hotel.
Day 12
Enjoy a full day in Shanghai with a walk along the Bund
and its museums, which cover both natural and cultural history.
Day 13
Transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
