About the Port
Lying off the Kimberley coast of Western Australia, the Lacepede Islands form one of the country's most important breeding grounds for seabirds and marine turtles. The low coral cays, ringed by shallow reef and turquoise shallows, sit within a protected marine environment where human access is limited, preserving the islands as an unspoiled sanctuary for nesting colonies.
Exploration here happens by small boat, with excursions threading between Middle and West Island for close, low-impact wildlife viewing. Visitors can expect dense concentrations of nesting seabirds and, depending on timing, turtles hauled out on the sand or gathered in the surrounding waters. Given the islands' remoteness and protected status, this is one of the few places along the coast where wildlife encounters remain largely undisturbed by permanent settlement.

Zodiac Cruise Between the Islands
Small boats thread the shallows between Middle and West Island, offering close low-impact views of nesting colonies without setting foot ashore. This is the only practical way to experience the sanctuary, so confirm timing with the shore excursion desk in advance.
Spot Nesting Seabird Colonies
Scan the low coral cays for dense concentrations of terns, boobies, and other seabirds gathered in one of the country's most significant breeding grounds. Bring binoculars and a zoom lens, as landings are restricted to protect the colonies.
Watch for Turtles Offshore
Depending on timing, green and other marine turtles can be seen hauled out on the sand or moving through the surrounding turquoise water. Keep a patient eye from the boat's rail during the slow pass along the reef edge.
