ITINERARY

Day 1 - Welcome to Reykjavik
On arrival, you’ll be escorted to the Alda Hotel. Enjoy breakfast and then explore this modern, culturally alluring city with our engaging guide. Meals B

Day 2 - Blue Lagoon + Fly to Greenland + Embark our Ship
Originating 6,000 feet below the Earth’s surface and rich with soothing minerals, the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon are a terrific way to start your day. Then fly to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland and board our ice-class expedition ship, the Ocean Atlantic. Meals B+D

Day 3 - Ashore in Sisimiut
Your tour of this lively town of 5,000 residents reveals fine Colonial-era homes and the historic Blue Church built in 1775. At the Sisimiut Museum, you’ll see artifacts from the ancient Saqqaq culture. Tonight, we’ll sail north of the Arctic Circle on our way to Disko Bay, home to a variety of whale species including minke, humpback and bowhead. Meals B+L+D

Day 4 - Disko Island + The Magnificent Eqip Sermia Glacier
Soaring thousands of feet, the craggy basalt cliffs of Disko Island greet you this morning. In the small community of Qeqertarsuaq, we’ll join residents for kaffemik, a Greenlandic tradition with coffee, cakes and conversation. Back onboard, we cruise as close as possible to the mighty face of the Eqip Sermia Glacier. This is one of the most active glaciers on Earth and we have a good chance to see it calving huge icebergs. Meals B+L+D

Day 5 - Ilulissat – The Iceberg Capital
Embark on a thrilling boat expedition into the Ilulissat Icefjord #WHS#, filled with icebergs from the Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier. Calving at an amazing average rate of 82 feet each day, it’s one of the world’s fastest-moving and most productive. This glacier is also one of the few through which the Greenland ice cap, formed during the Quaternary Ice Age, reaches the sea – and some of the ice that surrounds us today is estimated to be 250,000 years old! Be sure to keep your eyes sharp: The skies and waters of the fjord are also home to a variety of sea birds including eider, auk, and guillemot. Meals B+L+D

Day 6 - Ashore in Itilleq
This morning you’ll wake to the picturesque sight of Itilleq, its brightly painted homes clustered along the rocky shoreline. Situated a mile above the Arctic Circle, this remote island settlement is just half a mile off of Greenland’s western coast. Going ashore, you’ll gain an intimate firsthand look into the life of its 100 or so residents. Though smart phones and web-browsing are a part of everyday life here, customs and traditions remain strong. Meals B+L+D

Day 7 - Kangerlussuaq to Reykjavik
After breakfast, disembark in Kangerlussuaq and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Iceland. On arrival in the capital, you’ll be escorted to the Alda Hotel. Meals B
