Why a World Cruise Is Different

Unpack once. See everything.

There are no airports between stops, no repacking, and no checking in and out of hotels. You settle into your suite, and for four to six months the world comes to you: Angkor Wat one morning, a week along the coast of South Africa, Bora Bora, the Suez Canal, Cape Town and Sydney. Each evening the same suite and the same crew are waiting for you, and by the second week they know exactly how you take your coffee.

If you are retired, this is the chance to see the world without rushing — the winter months in Polynesia, Asia and the Southern Hemisphere, and time in each port instead of a morning.

If you are still working, a world cruise is closer than you think. It can mark a sabbatical, a milestone, or a well-earned break between chapters, and Wi-Fi is included on most of these voyages. And if four to six months is more than you can take, nearly every world cruise below can also be sailed as a 20- to 60-day segment with many of the same amenities.

How long is a world cruise?
Full world cruises run roughly 100 to 180 days. The longest voyage selling right now is 244 days. Nearly every one can also be sailed as a 20- to 60-day segment.
What is actually included in the fare?
Far more than the cruise. Depending on the line: business or first class air, a pre-cruise hotel night and gala dinner, private transfers, luggage shipped from your home, shipboard and shore excursion credit, unlimited laundry, visa assistance, onboard medical consultations and shoreside events reserved for full world cruise guests. When should I book?
As early as you can. World cruises open for sale two to three years ahead and the best suites go in the first hours. Deposits are refundable inside the line’s published window, so booking early protects both the cabin and the fare at no risk.
