About Disney Cruise Line

“The Disney Cruise Line fleet are stunning vessels that pay homage to the grand era of the ocean liner, while providing state-of-the-art comforts and engaging, Disney-exclusive activities designed to bring families together, whatever the destination. Disney Cruise Line has selected the most stunning destinations—in the most exciting regions around the world—for cruises you and your family will always remember. Discover the world of delights waiting for you on your next Disney cruise.” — Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line set out to reinvent the family vacation at sea when Disney Magic sailed her maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, on July 30, 1998. The company established the family market within the cruise industry, and the fleet has since grown to eight ships — Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, Wish, Treasure, the heroes-and-villains-themed Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure, which sails three- and four-night voyages from Singapore.

Storytelling shapes everything on board. Rotational dining moves guests through three imaginative restaurants over the course of a cruise while the same service team follows along each night, learning the family's preferences. Evenings bring Broadway-style stage productions — including a new adaptation of Hercules aboard Disney Destiny — plus deck parties and first-run movies. Children have their own worlds in Disney's Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab, with play areas inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel stories, while tweens gather at Edge; endless soft-serve ice cream and hot chocolate are happily included.

Many Bahamian itineraries call at Disney Castaway Cay, the line's 1,000-acre private island, or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which opened in June 2024 on roughly 600 acres of Eleuthera. Multigenerational families are the natural audience — grandparents included — with adult-exclusive dining and lounges balancing the pixie dust. Sailings reach the Caribbean, Alaska, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

New & notable: Disney Destiny, the heroes-and-villains ship, sailed her maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale on November 20, 2025, and Disney Adventure now sails from Singapore — with Disney Believe, themed to promise and possibilities, debuting in late 2027.

Smoking on board

For the comfort and enjoyment of our Guests, Disney Cruise Line ships have been primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, it is recognized that some Guests smoke. To provide an onboard atmosphere that also satisfies smokers, portions of open-air decks on each ship are designated as smoking areas. Smoking is prohibited in Guest staterooms and private verandahs. Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms or on their verandahs will be charged $250, which will be added to their folio. All Guests must observe the nonsmoking areas and refrain from smoking pipes and/or cigars in any of the public areas. These requests are to provide a comfortable shipboard living atmosphere for everyone.

Traveling with minors
Group babysitting is available for children 12 weeks to 3 years old at Flounder's Reef Nursery on the Disney Wonder, and at It's a Small World Nursery aboard the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream and Disney Magic — all located on Deck 5, Midship. There is an hourly fee per child at the nursery - $9 for first child and $8 for second child. Guests may book babysitting times online in advance of embarkation or may sign up their children on embarkation day. The facility is open for select hours every day. Rates and times are subject to change and space is limited.
In room babysitting services are not offered on any of the Disney ships.

Activities: Children's Activity Centers are delightfully themed, supervised play spaces where kids 3 to 12 years of age can watch movies, play games, draw, dine and make new friends.
Teens: Teens can enjoy music, movies, video games and other teen-only activities inside Vibe (ages 14-17). Teens will find big-screen plasma TVs, a lounge area, dance floor and the latest gaming technology. Teens have plenty of freedom on a Disney cruise under the watchful eyes of trained counselors. Teens can see "What's Happening Today" in the Personal Navigator. There are also teen-only excursions on Castaway Cay, Disney's very own private island paradise.
Swimming Pools for kids:  There are 2 Guest pools onboard for kids. The largest, Goofy's Pool, invites families to play together. Mickey's Pool is reserved just for the little ones. There are no lifeguards permanently stationed at the pools, so kids should only swim with parental supervision. Spas near the pools are available for the use of Guests over 16 years of age only.
Important Information About Swim Diapers
: The United States Public Health Service requires that only children who are toilet trained are permitted to enter swimming pools and spas aboard cruise ships.

Children who are not toilet trained are welcome to enjoy Nemo's Reef and Mickey's Splash Zone, where they must wear swim diapers. Please note, swim diapers are not permitted in the pools, the hot tubs or spas, the AquaDuck and the AquaLab.

Infants under 12 weeks old are not allowed to travel aboard Disney Cruise Line ships. The minimum age to sail aboard Disney Cruise Line ships is 6 months of age on most itineraries, and the minimum age for Transatlantic, Hawaii, and Panama Canal itineraries is 1 year of age.
Pregnancy policy

Pregnant women are only allowed to sail if pregnant for 24 completed weeks or less at time of cruise disembarkation. All pregnant women are required to produce a physician’s letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel and the pregnancy is not high-risk. The letter must also include the estimated date of delivery (EDD).

Policies are provided by Disney Cruise Line and can change; your Pavlus advisor will confirm current terms for your specific sailing before you book.

Disney Cruise Line Questions, Answered

What is Disney Cruise Line and who is it for?

Disney Cruise Line launched in 1998 and now operates a fleet of 7 ships sailing to North American guests (Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, Wish, Treasure, and the newest addition, Disney Destiny), plus Disney Adventure, a Singapore-based ship serving the Asia-Pacific market. Additional ships are in the pipeline through 2031. Disney is:

  • The best cruise line in the world for families with children, particularly ages 3–12 for whom character experiences are genuinely magical
  • A strong choice for adults and couples who appreciate Disney storytelling, exceptional service, and adult-only venues that genuinely deliver (Palo, Remy, Quiet Cove pool)
  • Operated by The Walt Disney Company with the full resources and imagination that implies — entertainment, characters, and theming are in a class of their own
Disney Cruise Line consistently earns the highest guest satisfaction scores in the mainstream cruise industry. The premium is real, but so is the experience.
How does Disney Cruise Line compare to Royal Caribbean and Carnival for families?

Disney leads on character experiences, Broadway-caliber entertainment, and immersive storytelling — no other line matches the polish or emotional impact. Service levels are among the highest in mainstream cruising.

Royal Caribbean offers more physical thrill attractions (surf simulators, rock climbing, go-karts on newer ships) and the Perfect Day at CocoCay waterpark destination, at generally lower prices. Better for active families who prioritize adrenaline over storytelling.

Carnival is the most affordable but least refined option — solid for families on a budget who have flexible expectations.

For families with children aged 3–12, Disney almost universally justifies the premium. For teens and tweens who are less invested in Disney IP, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian often provide stronger value.

Is Disney Cruise Line worth the premium price?

Disney Cruise Line commands the highest prices in mainstream cruising and consistently earns the highest satisfaction scores. The premium reflects:

  • Character experiences unavailable anywhere else at sea
  • Entertainment production values that rival Broadway; multi-million-dollar stage shows original to Disney
  • Meticulous service training — crew call children by name from embarkation; the attention to detail is extraordinary
  • Castaway Cay — a private island experience that is genuinely world-class
  • Adult-only spaces that are actually excellent — not an afterthought

Families with children aged 3–12 almost universally report the premium is justified. Adults-only couples who love Disney also rate it extremely highly. Guests primarily motivated by price will find better value elsewhere.

Which Disney ship is best?

Ship choice depends on your priorities:

  • Disney Wish / Treasure / Destiny class: Newest and largest (~4,000 guests); Destiny (2025) is the newest of the three; most dining options, best adult areas (After Hours / 1923 / Haunted Mansion Bar), AquaMouse water coaster, most refined Concierge experience; ideal for first-timers who want the most complete product
  • Disney Fantasy / Dream: Mid-size (~4,000 guests); strong itinerary variety, AquaDuck watercoaster, well-rounded product; the most consistent “workhorse” Disney ships
  • Disney Magic / Wonder: Smaller (~2,400 guests) and oldest but beloved by repeat Disney cruisers for their intimate atmosphere and classic character; ideal for shorter sailings and European itineraries
Where does Disney Cruise Line sail?

Disney sails:

  • Caribbean and Bahamas — Year-round; includes Castaway Cay and the new Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point; the most popular and highest-frequency program
  • Alaska — Summer season from Vancouver and Seattle; fjords, glacier viewing, wildlife
  • Europe — Mediterranean and Northern Europe in summer; Scandinavian and Baltic sailings from Dover
  • Hawaii and Transpacific — Seasonal; limited departures but popular with Disney fans
  • Mexico and Pacific Coast — Short 3–7 night sailings from San Diego
  • Transcanal repositioning voyages — Seasonal; Panama Canal sailings
