About this property
On Sri Lanka’s quiet, sun-baked south coast near the fishing town of Tangalle, Amanwella lies amid 37 acres of coconut trees next to a crescent of golden sand. Combining modernist lines and indigenous materials, the resort is inspired by the work of famed Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. Away from the palm-shaded private beach club and the 47-metre pool, the area’s diverse attractions – from tea plantations to treks and temple visits – capture the island at its most authentic.
Identical in design and layout, each of the 28 suites features floor-to-ceiling glass and lattice panels opening on two sides to a private courtyard, a terrace and a six-metre plunge pool. Flooded with light, all suites range along a hillside facing the Indian Ocean, with Premium Ocean Suites providing the finest views. Large sliding wooden screens divide the airy interiors into a combined sleeping and living room and a sumptuous bathroom. Some of the suites can be connected to accommodate larger groups or families.
