About the Port
Andros, known locally as the Big Yard, is the largest island in The Bahamas and among its most unspoiled. Pine forests, tidal mangroves, and shallow luminous flats define a landscape prized by naturalists and anglers, while the surrounding waters and interior hold more than 180 recorded blue holes, one of the densest concentrations of these formations found anywhere. Several national parks protect the island's varied habitats, from wetlands to pine barrens.
Beyond its natural features, Andros carries a distinct cultural identity, most visibly through Androsia, the hand-dyed batik cotton fabric produced on the island since the 1970s. Settlements remain small and low-key, so travelers venturing beyond the immediate landing area should arrange transport in advance to reach inland trails, blue holes, or the Androsia workshop.
