About the Port
Antwerp sits some 50 miles inland along the Scheldt River, a seaport that has anchored global trade since the 15th century and still ranks among Europe's busiest. As Belgium's second city and the historic heart of Flanders, it built its fortune on diamonds and maritime commerce, a legacy visible in its grand guild houses and riverside fortress, Het Steen. Though heavily bombed during World War II, the city preserved much of its medieval core, with cobbled lanes threading past the Grote Markt and its ornate step-gabled facades.
The pier sits within walking distance of the old town, making the Gothic cathedral, crowned by a soaring spire, an easy first stop, along with the Brabo Fountain in the main square. Beyond the historic center, Antwerp's reputation for fashion, beer, and chocolate gives visitors plenty of reason to linger before returning to the ship.
