About the Port
Set in the Carpathian foothills of Transylvania, Brasov pairs a well-preserved medieval core with the layered history of Romania. Gothic church spires and stone watchtowers rise above a sprawling main square, while later Soviet-era architecture on the outskirts traces the town's twentieth-century past. Founded by Saxon settlers centuries ago, Brasov long served as a fortified trading center, and its old town remains compact and walkable, with narrow lanes leading to remnants of the original city walls.
Brasov is best known today as a base for exploring the surrounding region, including Bran Castle, popularly linked to the Dracula legend, and Peles Castle, the ornate Neo-Classical summer residence built for Romania's first king in the 1870s. Nearby Sinaia Monastery, one of the area's oldest religious sites, adds another layer of history.
