About the Port
Founded by Greek settlers around 600 BC as Tomis, Constanta ranks among Europe's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Centuries of Greek, Roman, Ottoman, and Romanian influence have left their mark on its streets, most visibly around Ovid Square, named for the exiled Roman poet who spent his final years here. Nearby, the domed Orthodox Cathedral and the slender Genovese Lighthouse anchor a waterfront promenade that has long drawn residents and visitors to the shore.
The historic core sits within easy walking distance of the pier, making independent exploration straightforward for those who prefer a slower pace. Constanta also serves as a practical gateway for onward journeys into Romania, including routes toward Bucharest. Between its layered architecture and Black Sea setting, the port offers a compact but rewarding introduction to a region where ancient and modern history sit side by side.

View the Roman Mosaic

Admire the Constanta Casino
This Art Nouveau landmark perched over the Black Sea has anchored the waterfront since 1910. Its ornate facade makes for one of the port's best photo stops along the promenade.
Climb the Grand Mosque Minaret
The Ottoman-era Mahmudiye Mosque, Romania's oldest, offers a narrow spiral climb to a small balcony with sweeping views over the old town and sea. A short walk from Ovid Square.
