About the Port
Esztergom sits along a sweeping curve of the Danube where the river marks the border with Slovakia, its skyline dominated by the vast dome of Esztergom Basilica. Once the seat of the medieval Árpád kings and Hungary's first capital, the town later became, and remains, the center of the Hungarian Catholic Church, home to the archbishop-primate. The basilica crowns Castle Hill, built atop the ruins of the earlier royal palace, and its terraces offer wide views over the river and the Pilis Hills beyond.
Below the hill, a compact old town of pastel facades and quiet squares invites unhurried wandering, with the basilica and riverside close enough for an easy walk from the pier.
