About Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole is the high valley at the feet of the Teton Range — 'hole' was the fur trappers' word for a mountain-ringed basin — and it remains the classic base camp for Grand Teton and Yellowstone adventures. The town of Jackson keeps its Old West swagger polished: elk-antler arches on the square, boardwalk galleries and outfitters, and the world-famous saddle stools of the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.
Out the valley's every side lies wildness of the first order. The Snake River winds beneath the Tetons through cottonwood flats where moose browse and bald eagles patrol; the National Elk Refuge shelters thousands of wintering elk at the town's edge; and the aerial tram at Teton Village hoists sightseers 4,000 feet to Rendezvous Peak's big-sky panorama. Float trips, chuckwagon dinners, and dude-ranch traditions round out the valley's repertoire.
