About Jasper
Jasper is the Canadian Rockies without the crowds: a small, friendly railway town set inside Jasper National Park, at 4,200 square miles the largest park in the range and part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Elk graze the town's edges, bighorn sheep hold up traffic, and the peaks — Pyramid, Edith Cavell, and the great white bulk of Mount Robson nearby — rise straight from the valley floor.
The park's roster of wonders reads like a Rockies' greatest hits: the Jasper SkyTram soaring up Whistlers Mountain, the boat cruise to Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, the limestone slots of Maligne Canyon, and Patricia and Pyramid Lakes mirroring the peaks minutes from downtown. Jasper is also both a Rocky Mountaineer terminus and one of the world's largest Dark Sky Preserves — stay an extra night and look up.
