Koblenz

Where the Rhine meets the Moselle, one of Germany's oldest cities opens the gateway to two storied river valleys

About the Port

Founded by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago at the strategic confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, Koblenz blends deep history with a relaxed, garden-filled present. Its long past as a fortress city and wine hub has left a layered architectural mix of historic and contemporary buildings, along with a cultural character shaped by both French and German influence. Parks and flowering promenades soften the city's ancient bones, making it a pleasant place to wander on foot.

Koblenz also serves as a natural gateway to two of Germany's most celebrated river landscapes: the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhine Gorge, lined with castle-topped cliffs and half-timbered villages, and the terraced vineyards of the Moselle Valley. The historic center sits close to the waterfront, making the confluence point known as the Deutsches Eck an easy and rewarding walk from the pier.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Koblenz.

Stand at the Deutsches Eck

Walk the riverside promenade to the monumental confluence point where the Rhine and Moselle meet, marked by a towering equestrian statue and sweeping water views. It's an easy 15-20 minute stroll from the pier.

Ride the Cable Car to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress

Cross the Rhine by cable car for panoramic views over Koblenz and the river confluence, then explore one of Europe's largest preserved fortresses. The round-trip ride takes about 15 minutes each way.

Wander the Altstadt's Squares

Amble through the Old Town's flower-filled squares, timber-framed houses, and fountains, including the whimsical Historiensäule and lively Jesuitenplatz, all within easy walking distance of the waterfront.
