About the Port
Perched on a steep hillside beneath the Sari Salltik peak, Krujë is closely tied to Skanderbeg, the 15th-century Albanian leader who resisted Ottoman advances from the town's clifftop castle. The fortress still stands above Krujë, its museum devoted to Skanderbeg's life, while the adjoining Old Bazaar offers narrow lanes lined with weavers, coppersmiths, and stalls selling traditional textiles and antiques. The steep, cobbled streets reward those willing to walk uphill from the lower town.
A short drive toward the Adriatic coast leads to Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, home to the Karavasta Lagoon, one of the largest coastal wetlands in the Mediterranean. Pine forests, sand dunes, and shallow brackish waters shelter Dalmatian pelicans and other migratory birds, making the park a quiet contrast to Krujë's fortified heights.
