About the Port
Set on Sicily's northern coast, Milazzo is a working port town whose long promontory has drawn seafarers since antiquity. Its hilltop castle and old citadel overlook a harbor still busy with fishing boats and ferries, while narrow lanes in the historic center reward a short stroll from the pier. The town's real draw for many travelers, however, lies offshore and inland alike.
Milazzo serves as the principal gateway to the Aeolian Islands, whose volcanic silhouettes rise from the Tyrrhenian Sea just beyond the harbor. Inland, the hilltop sanctuary of Tindari, with its dramatic clifftop views and ancient ruins, makes a rewarding half-day excursion. Compact and easy to navigate, the port area allows independent exploration on foot before venturing farther afield into the surrounding Sicilian countryside.
