About the Port
Moji sits at the northern tip of Kyushu, where the narrow Kanmon Straits separate the island from Honshu near Shimonoseki. Once a bustling international trading port in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it retains a district of brick and stone Western-style buildings from that era, now known as Moji Retro. Landmarks such as the former Moji Mitsui Club and the old customs house recall this maritime commercial past, set along a waterfront promenade with views toward the strait and its suspension bridge.
The historic quarter lies within easy walking distance of the pier, making it simple to explore on foot.
