About the Port
Saint Goarshausen sits on the eastern bank of the Rhine, directly across from its sister town Saint Goar, in a stretch of the river renowned for its steep vineyards and clustered castles. Towering above the village is the Lorelei, a slate rock famed in German legend for the siren said to lure sailors onto its rocks with her song. The Rhine narrows and bends sharply here, creating one of the river's most dramatic passages.
Walking paths lead from the town up toward the Lorelei viewpoint, offering sweeping vistas over the water and surrounding hills. Nearby, the ruins of Katz Castle crown a bluff overlooking the river, a reminder of the fortresses once built to guard this vital trade route. The town center remains an easy walk from the riverfront, making it simple to explore on foot before returning to the water.
