About the Port
Set along a sheltered inlet on Croatia's central Adriatic coast, Šibenik is one of the country's oldest native towns, first recorded in 1066 and shaped over centuries by Venetian, Byzantine, Hungarian, and Habsburg rule. That layered history survives in a compact old town of narrow stone streets rising above the harbor, crowned by the UNESCO-listed St. James Cathedral, a Renaissance masterpiece built entirely of white stone. Fortresses on the surrounding hills add further texture to the skyline.
The cathedral and old town sit within easy walking distance of the waterfront promenade, known as the Riva, making the historic core simple to explore on foot. Nearby, Šibenik also serves as a convenient gateway to the Kornati Islands and Krka National Park, rewarding travelers who linger a little longer along this stretch of coast between Zadar and Split.
