About Tarangire
Tarangire National Park takes its name from the river that curls through it — the dry-season lifeline that pulls wildlife in from the surrounding rangelands until the park holds one of the greatest concentrations of game in Tanzania. In the dry months, elephant herds hundreds strong dig for water in the riverbed, joined by wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and the predators that follow them.
The park's landscape is instantly recognizable: rolling savannah studded with ancient baobab trees, some of them centuries old, their swollen silver trunks glowing at sunset. Tarangire is also one of East Africa's finest birding parks, with well over five hundred recorded species, and its comparative quiet — most safari traffic hurries past toward the Serengeti — leaves its sandy river bends and baobab hills feeling wonderfully unhurried.
