Day-by-Day Itinerary

8 days through your journey

Day 1

Welcome to Edinburgh

Arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, built across a series of hills with the Old Town’s medieval closes and the Georgian New Town both recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet your Travel Director and set off on a stroll along the Royal Mile, tracing centuries of stories between Holyrood and the castle. Then climb to Edinburgh Castle, dramatically set on an extinct volcano, to explore its historic halls and sweeping views across the city’s rooftops and coastline. Inside, see the Honours of Scotland, the nation’s Crown Jewels, safeguarded here for generations. This evening, share dinner together and toast the start of your journey.
Day 2

Explore the Culture of Edinburgh

Begin your day with MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience at an Islander bag workshop where you’ll create your own Harris Tweed handbag, choosing from a range of cloth patterns then learning the steps that bring your piece together. Work with Harris Tweed, the iconic cloth woven in the Outer Hebrides, as you create a handbag you can use throughout your trip. Later, enjoy a Scotch whisky experience tailored to your tastes. Share what you enjoy most, from light and floral to rich and smoky, then sample whiskies matched to your preferred flavor profile while learning how cask type and ageing influence flavor.
Day 3

To Oban via Stirling

Travel west from Edinburgh, pausing near Falkirk for photos at The Kelpies, the 98-ft-high horse-head sculptures inspired by the working horses that once powered Scotland’s industry and canals. Continue to Stirling for a walking tour through the Old Town, hearing how this strategic crossing point shaped Scotland’s story. Then stop at the Luss Visitor Center to learn more about one of Scotland’s most picturesque conservation villages, set on the banks of Loch Lomond. Later, arrive in Oban, known as the gateway to the Isles, with time to settle in before dinner at your hotel this evening.
Day 4

Oban, Kilmartin and Tales by the Fireside

Start the day with your Travel Director on a walking tour of Oban, a lively harbor town shaped by fishing and ferry life and prized for its sea views towards Kerrera and the inner Hebrides. This ‘gateway to the Isles’ is also known for its whisky heritage and Victorian-era landmarks. This afternoon, slow the pace with afternoon tea at Knipoch, a local favorite overlooking Loch Feochan where the ritual comes with a side of local storytelling in the spirit of “Tales by the Fireside”. Then enjoy a private gallery tour at Kilmartin Museum, diving into one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes, from standing stones and burial cairns to carved rock art and archaeological finds spanning millennia.
Day 5

Through Glencoe to Loch Ness

Travel onwards to Fort Augustus, pausing at the Glencoe Visitor Center for context on the glen’s geology, landscape and history. Continue to the turf and creel house, a reconstruction that illustrates 17th-century Highland building methods and daily life using traditional materials. Later, cruise Loch Ness from the loch’s southern end, hearing how depth, folklore and landscape have shaped its reputation. Afterwards, visit Dundreggan Rewilding Center for a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience, learning how native woodland is being restored in the Highlands and what rewilding looks like in practice. Back in Fort Augustus, enjoy time to explore the village and watch boats navigate the Caledonian Canal locks before dinner at your hotel this evening.
Day 6

Discover the Isle of Skye

Travel from Fort Augustus to the Isle of Skye for a full day of island scenery and local character. Cross to Skye and head for the Old Man of Storr, the best-known rock pinnacle on the Trotternish Ridge, shaped by ancient landslip and erosion. Your Travel Director shares what makes this landscape so distinctive, from basalt cliffs to sea-level views across the Sound of Raasay. Continue to Portree, Skye’s main town, where you’ll have time to explore the harbor area, browse local shops or find a cafe before returning to Fort Augustus for the night.
Day 7

The Highlands and back to Edinburgh

Travel back to Edinburgh through the Cairngorms, a vast national park of high plateaux, pine forests and heather moorland. Stop at Culloden Visitor Center then walk the battlefield where the Jacobite Rising ended in 1746, with your Travel Director bringing the story into focus. Continue to Rothiemurchus for a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience on a Hairy Coo safari, meeting Highland cattle up close while learning how the estate balances land management, wildlife and local livelihoods. Later, arrive in Edinburgh for your final night. This evening, gather for dinner together and raise a glass to the journey you’ve shared.
Day 8

Farewell Edinburgh

As your journey comes to an end, say goodbye to your Travel Director and fellow travelers. Take a final moment to reflect on Scotland’s layered history and landscapes, from island crossings and Highland glens to Edinburgh’s storied streets.
