At the *Liszt Academy of Music, you’ll settle beneath the gilded balconies of the Art Nouveau Grand Hall as the first notes travel from the stage, clear enough to catch every pause and change in tempo. With your Local Specialist, you’ll walk through Buda’s Old Town and look up at the patterned Zsolnay tiles of Matthias Church before crossing the stone terraces of Fisherman’s Bastion. Between its seven towers, you’ll follow the Danube across the city to Parliament on the opposite bank. You’ll leave Budapest behind and follow the road into Slovakia, watching long valleys narrow and weave between the forested slopes of the Low Tatras. Guided by your Local Specialist, you’ll cross Warsaw’s meticulously rebuilt Old Town, moving between painted townhouses and the warm red walls of the Royal Castle before looking up at the Palace of Culture’s pale stone tower. In Łazienki Park, you’ll follow garden paths to the Chopin Memorial, where the composer sits beneath a bronze willow, its branches swept sideways as though caught in the wind. At the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, you pause and pay your respects to those who fought and died in the Warsaw Ghetto. The afternoon is yours. Perhaps continue exploring Warsaw’s past at your own pace, or take your seat for a Chopin recital, as you listen to the piano sweeping from tender, measured notes into full passages.
West of Warsaw, you’ll watch the central plains stretch towards the horizon, the road dipping through farmland until the Oder River gleams below and you cross into Germany. As you enter Berlin, ochre-red S-Bahn trains thread between apartment blocks while you travel deeper into the capital. Perhaps begin your stay in Berlin with traditional local cooking, tasting crisp currywurst covered in a rich tomato-curry sauce.
With your Local Specialist beside you, you’ll travel beneath the spreading branches of the Tiergarten, their leaves rustling above the avenue as the Reichstag’s glass dome catches the shifting sky. At Brandenburg Gate, you stand between tall sandstone columns with the bronze Quadriga crowning the gate above, then follow Unter den Linden into former East Berlin. Following the Vltava into Český Krumlov, you watch red roofs rise above the river and climb towards the castle.
