Day 1: USA or Canada/Cape Town, South Africa
Drive through Cape Town to flat-topped Table Mountain for a
panoramic view of both city and sea. Take a refreshing stroll through
Company Gardens, a large tranquil park with a lush collection of
plant life. Continue to the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building
in South Africa. This five-pointed stone castle was built to protect
the Cape amid rumors of war between Britain and the Netherlands.
Continue on to the District Six Museum.
Originally a vibrant
community of freed slaves, District Six was completely destroyed
after the South African government declared it a "whites-only" area.
Refusing to allow their lives become part of the rubble,
citizens organized a museum to keep the memories of District Six
alive. Their efforts paid off in 1998 when the District Six land was
granted back to the people.
This evening, gather with your fellow travellers for a festive welcome dinner.
