Bavaria is a romantic part of Germany with pretty beer halls, quaint old towns and fairy-tale castles set high in the hills. Explore Munich and King Ludwig II's Neuschwanstein Castle.

The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore on your own.
Day 2: Historic Old Town
Join your local guide for a walking tour of the compact Old Town,
with its famous Hofbräuhaus. See the Karlsplatz fountain and the
Frauenkirche, as well as the Marienplatz with the new Rathaus
(city hall). During an afternoon at leisure, you may want to watch
the surfers and stroll along to the Eisbach, a small river that forms
a standing wave.
Day 3: A Fairy Tale Castle
Set out into the Bavarian countryside to King Ludwig II’s
Neuschwanstein Castle, used by Walt Disney as the model for
Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland. Its construction almost
brought Bavaria to bankruptcy, and Ludwig’s early death in the
lake is rumored to be closely connected with this. Take time to
walk to the Marienbrucke (Mary’s Bridge) for the best views of
the stunning, fairy tale castle. Afterward, see Ludwig II’s country
retreat at Linderhof; its Rococo styling is similar to Versailles’.
