ITINERARY

Day 1
See the complex of monuments that most symbolizes Athens: the Acropolis. The highlight of this historic complex is the Parthenon, one of the most important ancient monuments in the Western world, dedicated to the Goddess Athena in the fifth century BC. Walk through the ancient Plaka district. Continue to the Panethenaic Stadium, the original site of the modern Olympics. You may also be able to view the elaborate Changing of the Guard in Constitution Square.

Day 2
Visit the National Archaeological Museum, housing a formidable collection of sculpture, pottery and jewelry. Then visit the 3D Museum to experience what it was like to walk through ancient Olympia.

Day 3
Drive along the scenic coast to Cape Sounion to visit the ancient ruined Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea, believed to date from the fifth century BC. The remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish.

Day 4
Transfer to the airport, where you board a flight to the island of Crete. Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to the Blue Palace Resort & Spa on the northeast coast in Elounda.

Day 5
You have a full day at leisure to enjoy the resort's facilities; a children's club offers swimming and activities for young travellers.

Day 6
Join your guide for a day of sightseeing around the eastern part of the island. Begin in the village of Kritsa, known for its traditional weaving. Observe the beautiful frescoes in the famous Panagia Kera church. Later, travel to Siteia and climb up to the Venetian Fort en route for spectacular views across the bay. As you journey through the scenic countryside you come upon Ierpetra, where you stop to visit the Archaeological Museum.

Day 7
Gain a new perspective on scenic Crete when you travel to Spinalogna - "long thorn" in the language of its Venetian occupiers - by private boat. Visit the 16th-century Venetian fortress which became a leper colony at the beginning of the 20th century, one of the last in Europe.

Day 8
Transfer to Heraklion's airport for your departure flight.
