Day 1: Arrive Nairobi, Kenya
Fly overnight to Nairobi and on arrival, check in to your hotel.
Day 2: Nairobi/Samburu Game Reserve
Fly to the Samburu Game Reserve, a rugged, semi-desert bush area.
After lunch, embark on a game drive in search of the elusive leopard
along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. This evening, attend a
welcome dinner and safari briefing.
Days 3-4: Samburu Game Reserve
Spend two days exploring Samburu in search of the famed “Special
Five” (reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich
and gerenuk) found only north of the equator.
Day 5: Samburu/Masai Mara Game Reserve
Board a flight to the Masai Mara and set out to see the greatest
concentration of wildlife in Kenya, including the country’s largest
lion population. Make your stay as active or leisurely as you desire,
choosing activities that include game drives and bush walks.
Days 6-7: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Spend two exciting days driving across the boundless, flat plains
in search of game. While you are here, consider taking an optional
hot air balloon ride. On your final evening (weather permitting),
dine in style along the banks of the Mara River.
Day 8: Masai Mara/Nairobi/Arusha, Tanzania/Lake Manyara/
Ngorongoro Crater
Fly to Lake Manyara via Nairobi and Arusha. On arrival, drive to
the ancient volcanic caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater, a haven for
wildlife. After settling in to your custom-made, walk-in tent with
the help of your dedicated staff, relax by a roaring campfire.
Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater
Explore the crater’s prolific wildlife, pausing for a private gourmet
barbecue set within a quiet, picturesque yellow acacia grove. Bird
lovers can view flamingos and countless other species. Among the
mammals, you may see the rare and elusive black rhinoceros. This
afternoon, meet with an elder at a nearby Maasai village to learn
about the tribe’s semi-nomadic culture and its traditions. This
evening, a local Maasai tribe puts on a private dance performance at
your camp.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater/Serengeti National Park
Fly to Serengeti National Park, home to a plethora of plains game.
Each year, triggered by the rains, 1.3 million wildebeest, 200,000
zebra and 300,000 Thompson’s gazelle migrate to new grazing
lands on a route that roughly mimics the boundaries of Serengeti
National Park, extending to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Days 11-12: Serengeti National Park
Spend the following two days in the Serengeti, whose complex
ecosystem is home to some 35 species of plains game and 500
bird species. During your stay, you may choose to participate in
the Serengeti Cheetah Project, that involves photographing cats
so researchers can identify and track them; you may even receive
detailed background about any cheetah you document. After an
exciting day on safari, return to your luxurious camp for sundowner
cocktails on a kopje (outcropping) overlooking the Serengeti plains
just as nocturnal predators prepare to hunt. Then, on your final
evening, recount your adventures with fellow guests during a
farewell dinner.
Day 13: Serengeti/Arusha/Depart
Fly to Arusha, where a dayroom is available until you board your
international flight.
