About the Port
Baile Mor is the small harbor village on Iona, a compact island off Mull's western coast in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. At its heart stands Iona Abbey, a medieval foundation often called the cradle of Celtic Christianity, rebuilt on the site of an early monastic community. Nearby, the roofless stone ruins of the Nunnery offer a quieter, contemplative counterpoint, its walls softened by wildflowers and framed by Atlantic views.
The village itself is little more than a cluster of cottages, a shop, and a pier, making the abbey and Nunnery easily reached on foot. A path from the Nunnery leads along the coastline, tracing rugged shoreline and open pasture with sweeping views out to sea. Iona's pace is unhurried and its scenery elemental, rewarding those who linger a little longer among its ancient stones and windswept machair.
