About the Port
South Queensferry sits on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, a small harbor town overshadowed by one of Britain's great engineering landmarks, the Forth Bridge, whose cantilevered red-painted spans have carried rail traffic across the estuary since the late nineteenth century. Edinburgh's center lies roughly an hour away by road, making South Queensferry a gateway rather than a destination in itself. Explore Edinburgh Castle
The fortress crowns the city's volcanic crag with the Crown Jewels, Great Hall, and sweeping views over the Firth of Forth. Allow at least 90 minutes and book timed-entry tickets ahead, since it draws the day's longest queues.
Walk the Royal Mile
This cobbled spine links the castle to Holyroodhouse Palace through medieval closes, kirks, and shops selling tweed and whisky. It's an easy, mostly flat stroll that captures Edinburgh's layered history in about an hour.
