About the Port
Fury and Hecla Strait threads between Baffin Island and the Melville Peninsula in the Canadian Arctic, connecting Foxe Basin to the Gulf of Boothia. Named for the two Royal Navy ships that attempted its passage in the 1820s, the strait remains choked with ice for much of the year, making transit a rare feat even for modern polar vessels. Its high latitude and isolation place it among the least-visited waters in the Arctic.
