Cruise Port Guide

Garibaldi Fjord

Where the Andes plunge into the Pacific and Garibaldi Glacier calves its brilliant blue ice into a remote Patagonian fjord

About the Port

Garibaldi Fjord winds through Alberto de Agostini National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve at the southern tip of Chile where the Andes descend directly into the sea. Cruising deep into the fjord brings travelers face to face with Garibaldi Glacier, a striking wall of blue ice that calves into the water below towering peaks. The landscape is remote and largely untouched, shaped by centuries of glacial movement and Patagonia's dramatic weather.

There is no town or pier here, so calls take the form of a slow passage through the fjord for close views of the glacier and surrounding wilderness from the ship. The surrounding waters support a variety of marine birdlife, adding another layer of interest for those watching from the decks. It remains one of the more untouched corners of southern Chile, offering a quiet counterpoint to the region's busier ports.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Garibaldi Fjord.

Watch the Glacier Calve

Post up on deck as the ship noses toward Garibaldi Glacier's blue ice wall for a chance to see chunks break away and crash into the fjord. Mornings often bring the calmest light for photos.

Scan for Fjord Birdlife

Bring binoculars for cormorants, albatross, and other seabirds that trace the fjord's cliffs and cold currents. The upper decks give the widest, least obstructed views.

Take In the Andes Meeting the Sea

Step outside as the ship threads between peaks that plunge straight into the water, a rare vantage on Patagonia's glacial-carved wilderness. Dress in layers, since weather here shifts fast.
