About the Port

Time a Tender Ride to Slack Tide
Small Zodiac-style tenders weave through the reef's channels as the tide turns, offering the closest possible view of water sheeting off the exposed limestone. Departures are scheduled tightly around tidal predictions, so join promptly when called.
Watch for Turtles and Dugongs
Slow the tender near deeper channels where green turtles surface and dugongs occasionally graze on seagrass beds close to the reef edge. Bring binoculars, as sightings are brief and distances can be considerable.
Photograph the Cascading Tide
The reef's dramatic waterfalls, formed as the sea drains off exposed rock shelves, are best captured within the short window of peak flow. A telephoto lens helps isolate the cascades from the open tender.
