Palamos

A working fishing port on the Costa Brava, prized for its prized prawns and as a gateway to Dalí's Figueres and medieval Girona

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Palamós sits on Spain's Costa Brava, a stretch of coastline whose name translates to "wild coast" for its rugged coves and pine-backed cliffs. The town remains an active fishing harbor, celebrated across Catalonia for the sweet, locally caught prawns that anchor menus in its old-town restaurants. Narrow streets lined with colorful facades and small cafes fan out from the waterfront, within easy walking distance of the pier, while the surrounding bay offers clear water well suited to swimming and snorkeling.

Beyond the harbor, Palamós serves as a convenient base for exploring the region's cultural landmarks. Figueres, home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum built by the surrealist artist himself, lies a short drive inland, as does Girona, a UNESCO-recognized city known for its cathedral, medieval quarter, and preserved Jewish district. Together they round out a visit that pairs coastal ease with inland history.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Palamos.

Tour the Dalí Theatre-Museum

Salvador Dalí's own surrealist creation in Figueres houses his largest collection of works, crowned by a glass geodesic dome. Plan on roughly an hour's drive each way, so book transport ahead and allow at least two hours inside.

Wander Girona's Medieval Quarter

Cobblestone lanes, a Gothic cathedral with Europe's widest nave, and one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe make this UNESCO-listed city worth the inland detour, about an hour from the pier.

Sample Fresh Prawns Harborside

Palamós's prized gambas are unloaded daily at the fishing port and served simply grilled in old-town restaurants steps from the waterfront, a quick way to taste Catalan cuisine at its source.
